Blog 5: Moral Dilemmas in Media

A) From the reading…How do you know when an image is fake? Fiete cites 7 different ways to identify fake images. Explain 2 different techniques. From the reading there are seven different ways Robert Fiete cited to identify fake images.
The way I can tell an image is fake is by the colors, or tone. This is the way that an image has been altered. Also, I can tell an image is fake is alteration of an an existing image that was captured by camera. An existing image can be altered by changing the context of the image, like saying that an image of a baby in diapers is an image of a baby with pull-ups on top of a box. When a picture is taken in a dark room it provides an advantage in adding and removing people or background from images taken by a camera.
B) In your opinion…Can you trust the images you see in the media? Why or why not?
In my opinion, I think not. The reason I thought no is because from the article “Photo Fakery” by Robert Fiete’s I have read that not all of the images we see in the media are real.
C) In your opinion…when is photo manipulation “OK” and when is it “WRONG”? Explain ONE situation in which photo manipulation is acceptable, and ONE situation in which it is NOT.
I think that it is ok to manipulate photos when it is trying to sell something that is supposed to be manipulated. I think that it is not ok when it chanes the way someone looks to sell a product.

A) From the reading…How do you know when an image is fake? Fiete cites 7 different ways to identify fake images. Explain 2 different techniques. There are many ways to be able to tell how an image is fake and they are.
Usually lines that don’t match up

Blurs
Colors differ
Objects may be lighter or darker
You might see it as a layer
lighting

B) In your opinion…Can you trust the images you see in the media? Why or why not?
In my opinion I do not think that people can trust images that we see in media because most of the time the stuff you see in magazines is usually makeup and you don’t see any pores or wrinkles in the girls face so you can really tell that is fake also in images of cars they try and make the car look better than it is because of the lighting in the picture.
C) In your opinion…when is photo manipulation “OK” and when is it “WRONG”? Explain ONE situation in which photo manipulation is acceptable, and ONE situation in which it is NOT.
One situation when photo manipulation is wrong is when you try to sell products to people and you know well that the product does not work but they edit the people in the picture and makes it look like it works.

I believe there is only really 1 situation when photo manipulation is right and it is when you trying to sensor something to hide it from the public or from kids or from propaganda

Blog 5: Moral Dilemmas

1) When things don't add up. When you look at an image and you see lines and blurs that don't match up, you can usually tell something is a fake. Or if the colors of objects and then tone of another don't add up then it's obviously a fake. If something is lighter than another object it is a fake. Sometimes people try too hard and are trying to cathc themselves in a mistake and can't see a lot of obvious things. Or if something looks as if it is layered onto something else to make a blending effect then it is a possible fake.

2) In my opinion you can trust the images in the media to be fake becuse they always are claiming to be real, when they are all fake and are trying to make up the newest fads in the world. They are almost always fake because those people are really vein and will usually try to hide their human side to try to look better than other people.

3) The only case where photo manipulation is o.k is when you are trying to clean something up so that kids won't see the terror going on. This is the only reason photo manipulation is right because it's trying to hide somehting like a murder victim or horror movies real aspect when you know children are going to end up watching it.

It is wrong when you are trying to sell your product to people because they then you are lying to people to get their crappy rpoduct out there. If it actually worked then you wouldn't have to go around boasting that your rpoduct is the best at whatever it is supposed to do. If it really is better, word of mouth will spread and your product will be number one because of results and not just because you paid somebody to tell the world that its the best at what it does, let the rpoduct speak for itself.
