Blog 3: Photo Anaylsis
In this photo I see Jewish people getting packed to the sides in a convoy by Nazi’s. There are wheels and squares, an arch and several other shapes. The setting looks to be a warm sunny day in a Nazi controlled area. The season in which the photo was taken seems to be the summer time. This photo is candid and untouched by anyone at anytime.
From my point of view I see suffering, devastation, and separation. This makes me feel as if the world doesn’t do enough to stop its own peoples suffering. If somebody really wanted to help they would have acted on Germany’s weird behavior before something of this magnitude happened. If someone really wanted to help out Germany after WW1 then they would have occupied Germany and help that country get back on its feet. But people chose to stay out of the way until someone attacks them.
Before this assignment I knew Adolf Hitler took over a weakened Germany in 1933 after WW1. He wowed audiences with his charisma and propaganda that sounded right to the Germans. He killed 11 million people in the “racial cleansing” in which 6 million Jewish people perished. He was also the cause of WWII. He killed himself in 1944. I assume he thought he was doing the right thing at the time.
I think the photographer wanted us to see how the Jewish people were being taken out of their homes and taken to their deaths by the Nazi officers. They took the photos this way so you could see the raw human emotion on the peoples faces. I think when other people see this picture they feel sad and helpless because there is nothing they can’t do anything about it. I think this photo was taken during the events of WWII but was only displayed after the war to show how horrific the events that Nazi Germany had put into place were.
