What is legacy?

This terms IP is on legacy. Legacies are things that can be meant for people to remember events in history. The legacies that people leave behind to have others remember then or someone else important. Legacies can be depicted through bloggs, articles, and videos. For my IP I will try and define the word Legacy, tell why people leave their legacies behind, and tell a legacy that I can leave behind.

The word legacy does not have just one definition in fact there are a plethora of different ways to define it. There are many opinionated versions of the definitions. One definition is a gift of property, esp. personal property, as money, by will; a bequest. A legacy is not only money and objects it can be much more. Personally when asked to define the word legacy I would say it is something left behind for people to see in the future and learn from. A legacy can be for example a website dedicated to something such the website left for many to see about the 911 victims.

There are other websites dedicated to people such as the people from hurricane Katrina that weren’t found that maybe alive. http://www.usa.gov/Citizen/Topics/PublicSafety/Hurricane_Katrina_Recovery.shtml another website that will live long after people are gone is http://www.bet.com/ . This is a website dedicated to black entertainment.
Other types of legacies can be shown through blogs.

When I die I want everyone to remember me as a funny outgoing person who loved to have fun. I want everyone to know who I was. I don’t want people to really sit back and mourn me I want them to celebrate my life. I guess my main legacy would be people memories of me. A memory is a legacy that no one can take from you. Another type of legacy I would leave behind is movies. Movies that depict certain aspects of my life and certain things I’ve done. Some of my legacies will be pictures of me, videos of me. I would like to make a website to show everything there is to know about me.

In conclusion legacies are shown by bloggs, websites, and articles. The definitions differ. Al legacy overall is a memory or commemoration to someone or something that will be seen long after it took place. A legacy is a lesson being taught and being learned. Here I hope I have shown some of the definitions used for the word legacy, the types of legacies people leave behind for others, and what legacy I would eave behind. Legacies are very cool and I think that people learn a lot from them.

A Legacy is anything handed down from the past, or something inherited, such as something from an ancestor. This can be accomplished by leaving behind something that represents you. For example, music artists leave behind their legacy, as their music continues to be heard around the world even after they are deceased. Another way to leave behind a legacy is with use of the internet. The internet has become a way to express yourself, and tell others your story. So, by using things like blogs and creating your own website, your story is forever held in the World Wide Web.

First, by browsing the internet on a blogging website called blogger.com, I came across a woman's online website http://katydidcrafts.blogspot.com/. On her ongoing blogging page, she describes things that are presently happening in her life. This includes pictures of events and places she has visited. She gives brief descriptions of her days and about books that she has read with her personal opinions and comments about them. The woman, who calls herself Katydid, moved from Boston to Savannah in the south. Reasons for her blogging aren’t specific, but I feel like for this woman, writing about her thoughts and feelings on the internet act as an outlet for her to express herself. This is a huge reason on why people leave online legacies.

Second, while browsing more blogs from people around the world at blogger.com, I came a across an artists page by the name of Mika http://mikaartblog.blogspot.com/. As described on his page, Mika is a “Japanese-Canadian contemporary folk artist” who’s work is displayed around the world. On this website you can find samples of this artist’s current works, that include the title, picture, and brief description of 21 of the artist’s paintings. The artist has this page on the blogger website, to give himself more exposure and share his passion with the world. Hobbies are also a big reason why people use the internet to leave legacies.

Finally, when I am gone, I too would like to leave a legacy. I want people to remember me as a kind, respectful, driven individual who tried her best to be a good person in a world that can bring you down. How will I leave this legacy? By continuing to volunteer, with images, videos, and online blogs of my volunteer projects posted online. By doing this I will inspire those who see my form of media online, to help those in need as well.

In closing the internet has become a huge way to stay connected with people around the world. Not only does it allow you to stay in touch with those familiar to you, but also helps you connect with those you don’t. By leaving your legacy online, either through blogging, images, or video on the internet, a part of you is left for others to see, and maybe even appreciate what you find in your life to be important.

The Meaning Of Legacy

Legacy is anything that is passed down through generations to the next whether it is a story, object, and/ or language. It has been shown in many different ways like photos, sculptures, books, and movies. People are always looking to be different and/or to be the fist to do something and in the rapidly devolving world the internet has shown light on leaving a legacy in a new way.

The reason why I think many people leave their legacies online because they would want people in the world to know who they are and what they went through during there life time. Also I think that people leave their legacies online because it is a simple way to pass on stories to the viewers to portray their lives which would be able to stay online until it is removed. I believe that internet legacies will never be removed and will remain on the internet due to its importance.

One example I found of legacy someone that left online is a blog about things that happen to this person daily http://youssef2k.blogspot.com/.She states that “No word processing, lots of bad spelling and the aim is to share my expertness with my friends, family and loved ones and the combination of all these groups”. The blog was created by the author using an online blogging website called http://www.blogger.com/start. The second example I found of someone that left their legacy online was a website that was created for the victims of September 11. http://www.911digitalarchive.org/stories/. Most likely the author created this website in a remembrance for the victims of Sept 11 and to be a memorial for them and also so that the stories of what happen that day will never be forgotten.

In media seminar we have used the internet to leave our own legacy so that other classmates and other people around the world can view my thoughts and opinions. We used many tools to better our ideas for our blogs. Some of the tools we used was Macromedia Flash, Adobe PhotoShop, Blogger (an internet blogging site), and many others. Some of the things I would like and would want to be able to leave behind are pictures, videos, and stories of my accomplishments and the most important things to me that I have received in my life. It would be good because I would want my family (pertaining to the next generations) to remember me so that they could know who what a type of person I am.

In conclusion I believe that people leave their legacy online because it will be present of a long period of time or there forever. So there fore I know that if I put my legacy online then it will remain available forever and will be available for all my future generations and others around the world to view and talk about. These are the reason why I would like to leave my legacy online. Will you leave yours?

A legacy is something that was passed down to some one or it is very old. A legacy can be something that some one left behind so that everybody can learn from it. In the dictionary it says that a legacy is an amount of money or property left to someone in a will or something handed down by a predecessor. A legacy can be anything or any one like kids are their parents legacy because they have the traits from their parents. A legacy can be a book or a dead person that you care about and you make their legacy known to every body.
The legacy I want to leave is my work and how creative I was in my work. I wont other people learn from my work when they see it. I want them to know that I wanted to become a computer engineer when I grow up and I want to learn how to play the guitar. I wont them to know that I had to work hard to get were I am today. I want my teachers to remember me for the quality of work I did and how I acted in class.
What I can put online so that everybody can see my legacy is my work from high school. My work form high school can show how I grew as a student and what the quality of my work was. I can also put pictures that I did my self to show how creative I was. Then I can put pictures of me as a baby all the way to when I am a grown up to show how I matured. Then I can write a biography of my self to describe who I am and were I am from.
People leave online legacies’ so every body can see their love one that was lost. Like people who died in the war or a cancer patent that died. There are a lot of Legacy websites that you put tributes and info about a love one. Like www.legacy.com that has thousands of legacies of people who died and there families put there biography online. An example of a online legacy I saw was Beauford H. Clayton and D’Angela Michelle Gilbert.
D’Angela Michella Gilbert legacy was made as a tribute to her when she died. She was born on June 25th 1984 and she died 2006. The online legacy was made with music photos and text with a Moving Tribute. Beauford H. Clayton was another online tribute to him it had music, text , photos, and Moving Tribute. They were all made in Adobe Flash player and were made on 2005.

Legacy is defined as anything handed down from the past, as from an ancestor or predecessor. With the invention of the internet, people are now allowed to create online legacies. There are many methods and online tools to do this. People can blog, record videos, create online photo albums, or web pages about the legacies they want to leave behind.

People feel the need to leave online legacies because it’s a way for them to be remembered, or something for them to remember in the future. For example, Rachel’s Random Revelment (http://thepinkangelandme.blogspot.com) published in November 2006, was blogged by Thepinkangel. Thepinkangel used Blogger (www.blogger.com) to create her legacy. Blogger.com lets Thepinkangel share her legacy of photography and important events in her life. Another legacy is a photo album by Gardawind (http://www.flickr.com/people/lagodigarda/). Gardawind created this legacy by using flickr (www.flickr.com), an online photo album tool. Garawind’s legacy will be remembered by the people who he impacted with his photos.

In Media Seminar, I’ve blogged online, scanned photos, and recorded videos, which are methods of creating an online legacy. If I were to create a legacy online, I would want to focus on the experiences in my life. I would tell accomplishments such as getting the Honor roll three terms in a row, or being inducted into the National Honors Society. Maybe people will become inspired by accomplishments work harder to reach their goals. I would tell people about my dreams and aspirations, for example, college and my goals beyond. Also, I would tell about lessons I’ve learned so people in the same predicament I was in can learn from my experiences.

When I create a legacy, I want to be remembered by my family, friends, and future generations. I want to be remembered as someone unique, intelligent, and funny. In a way, I want people to laugh at my legacy because it would be filled with jokes and the humorous trials and tribulations of my growing up as a teen. I don’t want my legacy to be prestigious or legendary; I want the people viewing my legacy to be able to relate to me as much as possible; sort of like having a buddy from beyond the grave. I can create this legacy by blogging my personal thoughts and major experiences in my life. I can take pictures of myself or things that are important to me so others can gain a sense of who I really am.

In conclusion, online legacies are used to share a piece of yourself with other people. People viewing your legacy will be able to take something away with them, ideally spreading your legacy to other places. The best thing about online legacies is that the Internet will be around for a very long time, and therefore your legacy can live on for future generations to view.

a.) Well first of all, I want to be sucessful when I leave highschool. I hope I can go to a college that can give an insight and a start in what i want to do for my life. Professionally, I want a job where it pays good money, and is not an everyday 9 to 5.

b.) Secondly, to answer everyones question on my future image. It is not a waiter, it is a pro chef. If I dont make a NBA team, I want to be a chef. I love to cook with my family, and I know how to make alot of dishes and dinners.

c.)Lastly, in my animation, you can see me growing up really fast. This shows how time flies so fast, without you even noticing it. Time is a factor in everyones life, even if you were just born.

a.) I have many goals beyond high school. Socially, I want to be well off, but not exactly wealthy. And hopefully, I'll still keep in touch with my friends from high school. Professionally, I want to have a job that I love and pays well. Academically, I want to complete college with a Bachelor's Degree or higher.

b. ) According to my future image, I can picture myself as a doctor in 10 years. Well, maybe in 12 years because becoming a doctor takes a seriously long time. I can't wait to wear that labcoat...

When I was a kid, I always wanted to be a Power Ranger. Stop laughing. When I got a little older, I wanted to be a chef. Blogs and photographs are just some of the ways of communication used to bring attention to the political, economic and social issues. Blogging is a way to express someone emotion and thoughts to the public. Blogging is a way that public from worldwide can be read daily. Another way of sommunication is photograph. Photographs can replay a message and awareness with more force than written word. . not to disuede away from text but pictures capture the essence of the message. . some evidence , "The design objects itself can work as a statement with impact that gets people to pay attention, to think, to notice, to act, to donate." "Imagery is such an essential part of design; they are hard to seperate. The skill is in the editing. Photographs grow close to their subject matter which does not always make for a subjectively great image that involves the viewer. A good designer is a skilled visual editor" (Goulet 1).a very good point and a very good quote.

2) Do you think visual forms of communication (image based) are more likely to reach and impact viewers worldwide than other forms of communication? Why or why not? , I do believe that visual forms of communication (image based or more) are most likely to reach and contact viewers all over the world better than other forms of communication because most people are to indolent to read especially if what they are reading doesn’t jump out at them or if it is boring. In the article it states, "The article was only a paragraph long accompanied by a small photo showcasing a brilliant orange crumbling carcass of a home. Yet it was powerful" (Goulet 1).

3) Do you think that people who are adept with technology and skilled in visual design have a responsibility to use their skills “to create awareness or peace or social change using imagery”? No, I do think that people who are adept with technology and skilled in visual design have a responsibility to use their I only think they should have the responsibility to use their skills if they begin to tell about something. In that case it is their jobs to finish what they start and do it to the best of their ability.

4) How could your "Make a Statement" image (Project 1) "create awareness or peace or social change"? I think I could have done a way better job with my image. I was trying to warm people about the dirt cops . to be honest and criticize myself if someone were to look at my picture they would know what to think. No, I do think that people who are adept with technology and skilled in visual design have a responsibility to use their skills "to create or peace or social change using imagery" because they may or may not be comfortable showing their skills and they may not have a computer at home or have a library card to show their skills.

4) How could your "Make a Statement" image (Project 1) "create awareness or peace or social change"? My "Make a Statement" image (Project 1) can make awarness by saying Immigrants should or should not work in America. My image can help people realize that they are taking the jobs of people who are born in the United States not be able to get a job.

Current communication tools and techniques can be used show and bring attention of the social, political and economical issues of the world because today there are more than one way of communicating so it can be through photography the internet/blogging, PSA’s etc.. Two communication tools that are used today are like I said before photography and blogging. Now and days we have the internet and most people have access to it in some way or another and a lot of people blog things on the internet to let people be aware of something. Also photography has been around for years and like they say a picture says a thousand words so pictures are a powerful way to bring attention to someone.

Yes I do because pictures are powerful especially pictures that have not been manipulated. Sometimes all you can do is look at a picture to tell a story.

Yes I do because they are equipped with those skills so they should use them to promote awareness

My “Make a Statement” image could create awareness and social change because my image show a comparison between the holocaust and the war in Darfur and how even though the world promised of never again it is happening again

1) How can current communication tools and techniques be used to bring attention to the political, economic and social issues of today? Identify 2 tools and how they are used. Current communication tools and techniques such as images and blogs can help bring attention to political, economic and social issues of today. Blogs are used all of the time due to having access to the internet. They are used to express and inform people about things going on in the world today. Blogs are viewed by numerous amounts of people all over the world, making it easier to get a point across. Images are another great technique to bring attention to something. Some people don't like reading, "People see a picture long before they read"(Goulet 1) so images are a good alternative. They are used for advertising all over the place, such as buses, trains, billboards, ect. In what ever way an issue is brought to peoples attention, "The message becomes knowledge and people carry that knowledge and tell other people."(Goulet 2).

2) Do you think visual forms of communication (image based) are more likely to reach and impact viewers wordwide than other forms of communication? Why or why not? In some ways I do think that visuals are more likely to impact viewers depending on how strong the visual is. If it isn't appealing then it probably won't get as much attention. In my opinion another good form of communication that could also draw a lot of people's attention is music, because it is so universal. Everyone listens to music and you don't necessarily need to buy the music, you can just listen to the radio.

3) Do you think that people who are adapt with technology and skilled in visual design have a responsibility to use their skills "to create awareness or peace or social change using imagery"? Yes and no because not everyone has 24/7 access to technology. But if they do and they feel strongly about an issue then they should use there skills to bring attention to the topic. This all depends if that person feels like visuals are the best way that they can get their point across.

4) How could your "Make a Statement" image (Project 1) "create awareness or peace or social change"? My "Make a Statement" image could create awareness for AIDS/HIV becuase it basically speaks for itself. It could help people come to a realization that people are dying becuase of this disease and not just small amounts of people, millions. Which means that people need to start protecting themselves, before they end up with the disease because it isn't a joke. It could happen to anyone and you could end up one of the numbers in the statistics.

Current communication tools and techniques can be used to bring attention to the political, economic, and social issues of today. Two communication tools that are used today are blogging/message boards and photo's. In todays we have access to computer and the internet were we can express how me feel about the world and post it on the internet where the whole can see. Photos are used these days to show what is going on in the rest of the world and can create awareness.
Do you think visual forms of communication (image based) are more likely to reach and impact viewers wordwide than other forms of communication? Why or why not? I think that visual forms of communication that are image based are most likely to reach and impact viewers worldwide because images can be interpreted in many different ways. As we all know a picture is worth a thousand words meaning that one picture can inspire some you in a different way then a person who is also looking at the same image. Image based forms of communication can reach a more wider audience because the materials needed are easy to get a hold of and they are easy to distribute.

I think that people who are adept with technology and skilled in visual designs have a responsibility to use their skills “to create awareness or peace social change using imagery” because just like artists who create paintings or musicians who create songs it is their responsibility to spread how they feel about the world through their skills.

Another tool that could be used is television, people spend a lot of time wasting away in front of the television.

2) I think images help more because people are always imagining things in their heads. Even when they are reading they are imaginging things in their head so images would be a great way to make an impact on the people who view it.

3) I think people with those skills are just responsible to a degree to create awareness of big issues because they have the skills at their disposal to really make a difference in a community. But it is also the peoples responsibility to look around them and listen to the people who are trying to make them aware of things that are making life on Earth worse than ten years ago or even yesterday.

4) My "Make a Statement" project could create awareness for people who don't think before they beat someone because, maybe they are only seeing it from their own point of view and not the point of view of others that get the same treatment. Maybe they only see it as their way of escaping their own pain and not thinking, that when they are escaping their pain they are inflicting not only physical pain on the abused but also emotional and mental damage no matter how long they are getting abused.

1) Current communication tools and techniques used to bring attention to issues are photojournalism and blogs/message boards. Photojournalism is using images to create a story, and to use that story to impact others or bring attention to a cause. Blogs/message boards are tools for people who share similar opinions about a certain issue t discuss it, and eventually inspire and influence the emotions and actions of people who read the blog/message board. Borges, a photojournalist, describes his photojournalism by saying "I like to tell the story through people, Through their eyes and faces...I tell the stories of heroes..." (Goulet 1). Burtynsky, another photojournalist, hopes his photojournalism "[allows] the viewer to confront these places and begin a dialogue...to ask what is this author trying to tell me" (Goulet 1). These photojournalists use techniques in the photos they take to cause the reader to ask themselves questions and further influence their thoughts.

2) I think visual forms of communication are more likely to reach and impact viewers worldwide for example, it's easier to emphasize with someone on a picture when you can see what they're going through, as opposed to reading about it. You can read an article about someone suffering, but you won't feel as bad as if you've seen a picture of the same person suffering. Alice Rose George says it best when she says "People see a picture long before they read. It influences how they understand (what they read)" (Goulet 1). An example is how the author of the article, Nancy Goulet, responds to a photo she sees "Is he contemplating? Is he caught in a fantasy? A memory? What have those beseeching eyes seen during his short life to leave such a haunting expression" (Goulet 1.) The photo was obviously very effective in causing Goulet to experience emotions and thoughts.

3) People who are adept with technology and skilled in visual design are free to use their abilities however they please, but they should realize how valuable of an asset they would be to helping a cause , or getting a point across. I wouldn't say they have a responsibility to use their skills to create awareness or peace, but they should acknowledge that their skills could make a huge impact in the world. Those who choose to take on the responsibility of being a photojournalist "have the responsibility to execute a message and make the message much more powerful" (Goulet 1). Photojournalism can be a very rewarding career, for example, Edward Burtynsky, a photojournalist, won the TED prize, and "was awarded a $100,00 purse and granted resources and support for three wishes to better the world" (Goulet 1).

4) My "Make a Statement" project can create awareness or peace or social change because it brings up an important issue: lack of free health care for those who don't who don't already have it. It makes people without health care wonder if they should be receiving free health care. More specifically, US citizens who don't have health care should be really influenced by my statement. After all, why should the live in a free country, and not receive free health care? The purpose of my statement was to "was to compel you to creating awareness of a situation you pass by everyday without notice" (Goulet 1). Referencing the article, my statement had a "strong, clear and consistent voice" (Goulet 1). I conveyed my message clearly and simply. My statement could cause US citizens who don't have free health care, and are eligible for it, to become aware of this problem, and actually try to receive health care.

Today communication tools and techniques such as blogs and photographs are just some of the forms of communication used to bring attention to the political, economic and social issues. Blogging is a way to express one emotion and thoughts to the public. Blogging is a way that public from worldwide can be read daily. Another tool and technique is photograph. Photographs are a way that canb apply a message and awareness more powerful than texts. Not saying that text is bad, but photograph is in a much better way to raise awarness. As in quote, "The design objects itself can work as a statement with impact that gets people to pay attention, to think, to notice, to act, to donate." "Imagery is such an integral part of design; they are hard to seperate. The skill is in the editing. Photographs grow close to their subject matter which does not always make for a subjectively great image that involves the viewer. A good designer is a skilled visual editor."

I believe visual form of communication has similar effectiveness as any other forms of communication. Though these different types of communication are similar they all have one intention and that is to raise awareness or convey a message to the public. Throughout all, I do think in a way visual forms of communication are more likely to reach and impact viewers wordwide than other forms of communication. The reason is because visual forms are a way to express one emotion, thoughts, and has a bigger impact on the public than other forms of communication. For example, a poster, a banner, website, etc. are all decorated with visual to catch the public awareness. In texts people will simply ignore it and walk away, but woth visual you can at least draw their eyes toward you. As Nancy Goulet mentioned, "The article was only a paragraph long accomplained by a small photo showcasing a brilliant orange crumbling carcass of a home. Yet it was powerful." What this means is that though the photo is small compare to the paragraph, the photo itself have sum up the whole meaning of the paragraph.

The reason is because everyone has a purpose set in mind as to what they want to do before they essentially do it. In the case of imagery, if the person does not have the mind set as to what their message they want to bring out such as awareness or peace or socail change one can not possibly create an image. As in quote from Alice Rose George, "Photography, like words, needs to be sequenced, ordered and placed in context in order to convey the emotional, visual and aesthetic." What this means is that a photograph is much like words that has a powerful message to create understanding and awareness for the public. So that's why I believe people who are adept with technology and skilled in visual design has the responsibilty to use their skills to create awareness or peace or social change.

In my "Make a Statement" project some of the things that I have included are a chart of the number of dropouts by race/ethnicity, an image of a graduating student, and an image demonstrating some of the careers student would want to pursue in. These images raise consciousness by showing the effects of students that today more and more students are dropping out of school. With teh lack of education one will never be able to pursue in the careers they wish to do. As a result, to provide a change to lessen the number of dropouts, I created this collage with the statement, "Stay in School"to show students that if they stay in school and get an education they will be able to pursue in their careers.

2) What I want the audience to do is not that complicated, I just want them to realize that “Homelessness is not a movie it’s real”. What the world needs to do is learn how to give, a dollar even if its pocket change, it would still help the homeless. Or if you don’t trust giving your money to the homeless give it to an organization. Better yet start a can food drive to help feed the homeless. Whatever your option is just get there and stop staring and do something.

Human Rights Issue: Neighborhood Violence
Neighborhood violence is a problem in almost all inner city/ urban areas. The homicide count is well over 70 so far this year... Which speaks for itself. Gang violence in particular is a big issue because it amplifies the volume of violence in communities because of rivalries. This image is targeted to anyone who lives in the city and is a teenager. They're usually victims to things such as gang affiliation and neighborhood violence.
I want people to know that there is almost no reasonable explanation for being in a gang. Some of this country's most notorious gangs reside in California in places such as Compton and LA. Most of these teenagers that join a gang are looking for protection but have no idea what the origin of the gang is and what exactly they're fighting for besides assaulting, or killing someone who's wearing a color not affiliated with their gang.
This topic is important to me because I want the younger generation of gang members to realize that when they do join gangs (such as crips or bloods) they're putting their life in risk even while in the comfort of their own homes, simply because they wear a different flag color. Most of these teens are of the same race and most likely reside within the same area or neighborhood. There is nothing wrong with uniting with the ones you care for and protecting them when they need it, but these gang members are senselessly killing eachother because of what color they rep.
I don't know if I will be very successful in convincing someone in a gang that it's not worth it, but if common sense can't convince someone that a color isn't worth fighting for then I don't know what good this will do. I hope they can at least comprehend the statement I'm trying to make and realize that there are other ways to remain safe without resulting to violence. This image was originally a photo of the Compton Crips, I edited it to be Bloods and Crips in the same photo by changing the color of their flags so it looks like they're together. The reason for this is to show that they are ultimately the same people fighting eachother based on a color solely.

The target audience for this picture is mostly boys That are between the ages of 14-21 in the Dorchester, Mattapan and Roxbury areas. I dont know much about other town in Boston but I know that in these areas there is alot of gun violence going on and I know that its been greatly effecting youth particularly the boys in these neighborhoods.
My reason for creating this image is to let people know that thousands are people are dying due to gun violence. 1.) My target audience was to all of the teens in the neighborhood that we live in. A lot of people are dying in the streets of Boston. About three days ago there were three shootings across the street from my house in one day. I don't even think that the shootings were far apart, they sounded like each of them were seven minutes apart.
2.) I want everyone to take action by trying to spread the word that violence is not the way. Usually the people that die are my age or even younger. I want everyone to worry about doing something constructive with there time. Because you already know I'm worried about "caking it". I also wqant everyone to know that if we work together or wasn't worried about claiming a "set", and worried more about their responsibilities.
3.) This topic is important to me , because personally I don't want to be a victim of a homicide. My life is a little bit too precious for all of this violence. 1) My target audience is anyone who has abused or has been abuse. Whether it was in a relationship or by their parents. If you have been abused before it will leave you with emotional and mental scares. The audience also doesn't have to be the victims, it can also be the attacker because if anything, need to wake up and see that putting people down only causes more drama than intended.
2) What we can do to help these people is help them get out of their troubled relationship. Even if they weren't getting abuse physically, you can still be abused mentally by being put down by the other person. And if it's a family member then they need a reality check because beating your child only means you failed to get the point across to your child that they are not supposed to do something wrong when they know they are only going to get caught.
3) This topic is important becasue abusers come in all shapes and sizes. Skin color doesn't matter and neither does age. Just because you see a certain group of people on t.v get abused doesn't mean it is only that certain age or color of people getting abused. No one person is immune to this problem.
4) I think I was able to get my point across because as you can see in the pictures above their are people of all ages and colors that were victimized. In this image some of the things that I have included are a chart of the number of dropouts by race/ethnicity, an image of a graduating student, and an image demonstrating some of the careers students would want to pursue in. This image I created is to show the effects of students that today more and more students are dropping out of school. With the lack of education one will never be able to pursue in the careers they wish to do. So I created a collage with the statement, “Stay in School” meaning stay in school, get an education and pursue in your career. One type of audience that i want my picture to attract are children of young age. I chose to target this audience because I want to let them know that doing the wrong things can have harsh consequences. 1) When things don't add up. When you look at an image and you see lines and blurs that don't match up, you can usually tell something is a fake. Or if the colors of objects and then tone of another don't add up then it's obviously a fake. If something is lighter than another object it is a fake. Sometimes people try too hard and are trying to cathc themselves in a mistake and can't see a lot of obvious things. Or if something looks as if it is layered onto something else to make a blending effect then it is a possible fake.

2) In my opinion you can trust the images in the media to be fake becuse they always are claiming to be real, when they are all fake and are trying to make up the newest fads in the world. They are almost always fake because those people are really vein and will usually try to hide their human side to try to look better than other people.

3) The only case where photo manipulation is o.k is when you are trying to clean something up so that kids won't see the terror going on. This is the only reason photo manipulation is right because it's trying to hide somehting like a murder victim or horror movies real aspect when you know children are going to end up watching it.

It is wrong when you are trying to sell your product to people because they then you are lying to people to get their crappy rpoduct out there. If it actually worked then you wouldn't have to go around boasting that your rpoduct is the best at whatever it is supposed to do. Inconsistency- You can tell if an image has been altered if a section of the image is inconsistent with the rest. For example, if the color, tone and edges of the section don't match up with the rest of the image, then the image may have been altered. Inconsistent illumination and shadowing are things to look for as well, but don't forget that illumination characteristics of a scene can seem inconsistent if imaging properties and other factors aren't taken into account.

Context Altering- context altering is the most common method of image editing. Changing the context of an image is usually claiming that the image is actually an image of something else. You can also change the content of an image by placing an image on a different image to create an image with a new meaning. It's a little tricky to identify an image with altered context. One way is to focus on the part of the image that makes it unbelievable. Also make sure to look for inconsistencies.

In my opinion, I can't trust the images I see on the media. After seeing many before-and-after pictures of models and products, I don't know what to believe anymore. I can't trust images because I can't tell if they're real or fake, or if it's the real deal, or some lie.

It's okay to manipulate photos only when you're doing it with good intentions. For example, retouching old photos; it’s okay to retouch an old photo in order to preserve it because the original is in bad shape, or has bad quality.

It's NOT okay to manipulate photos when you doing it in order to lie to people. For example, manipulating a photo to promote a product, making people think it's better than it actually is, or making the model for a product appear beautiful, so others will buy the product in hopes of looking beautiful, too.

Two of the seven techniques Fiete explained are context altering and inconsistency. The key to identifying fake images is context altering because when the context is altered in an image then the image has new meaning. Usually when the context is altered it is obvious because there is sometimes another image added that is out of context. Which creates a new meaning for the image. Another clue for identifying fake images is by looking to see if there is inconsistency in color or shadows. Like in the example shown in the article with the family portrait and the grandmother was added in. If you look closely at the image you can see the shadow in the lower portion of her body, proving that the image was altered.

B) In your opinion…Can you trust the images you see in the media? Why or why not? It is very hard for me to trust images used in media becuase most of them are false or fake. They are also sometimes taken out of context and altered to perfection. For example makeup companies always try to make their products seem like they are good products. The images we see are in a way retouch or manipulated. Though some images we see are not clear to either if they manipulated or retouch, I learned that people who are experts with programs such as Adobe Photoshop can easily retouch and manipulate the images that we can not tell if they fake or not. From the reading Robert Fiete mention that “some people generate fake images for profit, selling pictures of alien, a ghost, or an alien ghost of Elvis to the tabloids.” This said that the reason people generate fake images is to get a profit.

I think this picture was altered because of the different images manipulate to form a more powerful picture to show the event that is concerning. For example, in this picture you can see the World Trade Center blended in with the American flag and the Constitution, while the Statue of Liberty head is blended in the stars of the American flag. With these pictures put together we know the message that it is being said; in this case the message is about the tragedy of September 11 terrorist attacked on America killing innocent people.

I think the target audience for this picture is more about the American people; especially those who lost their love ones in the disaster of terrorist attack. This picture is dedicate that we will always remember and honor those who risked their lives to rescue the people and the death of the innocent people.

The impact of combining these images into one is because when they are formed as one picture it creates a more powerful image in showing a better understanding for the viewer. For example, if you only had an image of the American flag your first thought would be it symbolize America, but if you add in the World Trade Center, the Statue of Liberty, and the Constitution it creates and symbolize a different meaning. Now instead of symbolizing for America with the American flag, it symbolize the tragedy of September 11 terrorist attacked on America with the three other images added to the picture. A) You can determine whether an image is fake by seeing if the image has physical properties such as a cameras effect edge’s sharpness, blurriness, focus and etc. A fake image doesn’t consist of these effects.
B) It depends on how you perceive the image, there are times were you look at the photograph in a magazine and realize that the image you are looking at is not exactly the same when you observe it up close. You can trust an image in the media when you see an image that looks real, but was probably done in Photoshop. For instance, when you come across an image in a magazine you notice a group of people you automatically start to think that these people are family members or friends. These people could probably don’t even know each other and be placed together in this one photo.
C) Photo manipulation is ok only when you’re re-touching your own photo or year book pictures; because some people would want to reminisce on the times they had in high school. Photo manipulation for advertisement is wrong because many older woman look at the young woman that are on the cover of a magazine selling this make-up products. The older woman start to think if the make-up this young woman is wearing would make them look younger. When in reality half these products that are on these advertisements don’t even work.

One of the photographs we studied in the Photojournalism lecture, "Raising the Flag on Iwo Jima" by Rosenthal, is the subject of a major motion picture directed by Clint Eastwood entitled "The Flags of Our Fathers." It is due to be released this fall.

"February 1945. Even as victory in Europe was finally within reach, the war in the Pacific raged on. One of the most crucial and bloodiest battles of the war was the struggle for the island of Iwo Jima, which culminated with what would become one of the most iconic images in history: five Marines and a Navy corpsman raising the American flag on Mount Suribachi. 1. well when you ask if i can trust a pictures you see in the media i think it depends on what you are talking about. for example if there is a woman looking for some sort of plastic surgery. on the internet and on T.V. there are before and after pictures so then maybe the after pic of some other woman cant be trusted because people will do anything to get publicity. so maybe this woman gets her surgery and she wonders why she looks so horrible but on tv it looks so good.

a second example where pics cantb e trusted is those loose weightcomercial with the weight loss pills. people in the comercials look all extra plastic when in actuality thats is not how it is.

a last example of hpw pics are unworth is the pics of models and how young ladies think that is is true beauty. some of these picture consist of people with no pores in their skin. we all have pores. this is all false advertisment and cant be trustd.

2. how to differenciate a credible picture from one that is not credible. it depends on what the photo is pertinent to. the given examples above are questionable. the weight loss pictures and plastic sergery pictions can and cant be deamed as credible. but the super model pictures are automatically known as not credible. not saying that these women and mean for that matter arent beautiful. make up works real miracles. it hides alot. as shown here: http://homepage.mac.com/gapodaca/digital/bikini/index.html. these are examples og what make up does. it decieves you. these pictures are not credible.

A) i dont think you can always trust the things in media.Ithink that because im ages can be retouched and you not even know it. not all images are real images. so you really dont know which images you can truely trust
B) I know when an image is credible when the image has not ben messed with. when it acctually and not a fariy tale
C) photo manipulation is okay for like family or school photos if requested. photo manipulation is not okay when you do it to change a ppersons whole appearance. for instance in magazines and on the internet most people dont really look like that so it wouldnt be right.

A) The pictures in the media some of them you can trust them but anything else no. The reason why I say this is because pictures would be close up to the face and other body parts it would look to perfect with a physical change. This also includes adveristment for other companies to get publicity. Only types pictures you can trust is althelic sports.
B) The was you can tell you that image has been retouched is by looking at the image pointing out what's perfect or not. As evident you look at a basketball "LeBron James" pictures they're in action and not retouched with any type of make-up. Another is when you look on the cover of essence magazine the image is retouched with make-up and you see all the blumishes on the person's face.
C) The times you should be able to manipuate a pictures is when your comparing and contrasting. It isn't okay when you advertising false information about somebody. This concludes that nothing in the world could be perfect.
D) The way you can tell if a picture is fake is when the image is faded in or out including having make- up to cover-up the blumishes and pores of a person face, but when it comes to the person body they make skin all smooth and shiny. One Robert's Fiete ways of pointing out a fake picture is when the content of the image is altered. The reason how you can tell is when you like physical traits to see which one is using the photographer imagination. Another factor is illumination characteristics of a scene. You can tell when you have 3d image that is being illuminated or faded/shadow to make it appealing to the viewer.

When it comes to media, we have alot of dilemmas that we deal with. For example, we have pictures that are very fake.
a.) I know when a picture is fake because you can see blemishes and spots in the picture were the photographer forces it. In most supermodels pictures or even a regular picture that was manipulated, you can something that is larger like he breasts or her eyes.
b.) In media today, alot of photographers can have pictures that can make a person think about something. Forexample, if a kid sees a picture of 50 Cent with a gun he would want to get a gun because he thinks it is ok because 50 Cent has one. But most pictures are good for our media like when they are advertising for cars or girl stuff.

This picture is a picture of Last years Hurricane Katrina. I picked this picture because I felt that Hurricane Katrina was something very powerful last year because so many people lost family members, their love ones, and their personal belongings that they cherished. I think this picture was altered because of the different mixtures of colors. For example you can see “The Times” newspaper then you can see someone’s house with trees going across the paper in a straight line. I think the target audience for this picture could have been anybody from children to adults. But in this picture the people that went through Hurricane Katrina suffered a lot. Like the lady in this picture this is what people had to go through. A lot of people lost their homes, and companies. Also you can see a little bit how people had to leave their cars and travel on foot. Hurricane Katrina was a very bad time for the Southeast and it will always be remembered as the years go on.

In media class seminar we covered on a lot of things. First it was the introduction on Blogoshere then we did photo analysis were we had to look for a picture and talk about how it impacted the world. In blogger 4 we had to look for pictures that had been manipulated with and talk about it. You can’t always trust the images in media because they might have been manipulated in a way so it can attract a certain group. The actual picture might have been changed like the color and the appearance. You can never know when an image is credible or not because it might just look that good or it was change. The only way you no if an image is credible or not is if you took the picture you’re self. Sometimes when you have those digital cameras they have brighten and darken on it. Manipulation is ok when you’re trying to make a point like feed the children or war pictures. It is wrong when your making a persons body unreal and women try to get that body and can’t.

In the car picture its ok because its showing of the style of the car even though its altered.

In the other picture the lady has no pures and this is not ok because then ladys will start to by this product and it doesn't work because the picture was altered.

This picture is a photo of Albert Einstein, and he is riding a bicycle. Of course the bicycle has many shapes of all sizes. and there are two bicycles in the picture. Also there is a tree in the background and a little alcove. maybe an outside hallway. It is also in black and white.
This photo makes me feel as though Albert E. is just learning how to ride a bike and he is successful. i also think that he is having a good time because he is smiling. The weather also looks very nice.
I dont have any prior knowledge on this photo. But I knew that it was Einstein becasue of the hair and the time of year.
I can concluded that the photographer wanted to capture Einstein in his glory days when he was just starting to invent things.

In this image you can see a young girl holding a gun. She’s also holding bullets. The girl is very serious and she looks like she is waiting for commands. In the back you see other people with guns. In the left arm you can see that they have Colombian flag colors. The people are all wearing army fatigue. They are also wearing boots and hat.
I see a young girl in the army. I feel very sad because I think that maybe this is a young girl that had to go to the army because it’s the only way that she can help her family. When I look at the girls eyes I can see that she look likes she’s proud and she’s ready for anything. She looks very prepare and confident.
Reading about this image I found out that this a teenage Colombian girl. She’s involved in a group name FARC. They kill innocent Colombians because they want to take over the counties government. I learned looking at this image that 6,000 children are believed to be fighting in Colombia. A third of these kids are females. Many of the kids are forced to join the groups. Some other times the children decide to join the group because they offer money.
The photographer took this image because he wanted to raise awareness. The photographer wanted to inform the public about the situation in Colombia. I think he took the photo that way because a young girl holding a gun is not something you see everyday. I think other people reaction when looking at this image is surprise and impress. I think if people look at this image they probably will decide to help the kids so this image is raising social awareness.

In this photograph I see before and after pictures of Japan. At first you see buildings and then in the after picture you see no buildings in it and it looks like a desert.

I see a city and then the after effects of the explosion and it makes me feel bad about what happend after seeing the devistation of the attack.

This event took place during world war 2 and was the event that made Japan surrender.

The photogrophers intentions were to show the devestation that the united states caused when they bombed japan.

In this image I see five African children who seems like they are hungry and sick. It seems like they are locked into a room with bars as if they are in jail. You can't tell the season that they are in but it is sunny and it may be hot.

My personal feelings about this image is that I feel bad for these children because they are poor and the probably don't have a family who loves them and who can take care of them. When I look at this image I wonder children who are ashy, dirty, and they don't look healthy. It makes me think of how good of a life that I have, that involes a lovable family, food to eat, water to drink and bathe in, and clothes that I can fit.

My prior knowledge based on this photo is that in Africa kids and even adults struggle to take care of themselves. This picture was taken recently of the children.

I think that photograpger took this picture so that people can see how African children are living. I think that other people's reactions would be the same as mine.

A) You can sometimes trust images in the media. It sort of depends on what it is a picture of if its a close up of a persons face and they have a perfect face you can not trust that because no ones face is perfect. The same goes for cars and food ads. The types of images you can trust is sports pictures taking during a game because 99% of the time those are striate up pictures.

B) Some of the ways you can tell if an image is credible is if the image is looks real and you can tell if it hasnt been retouched or not. For example if you see a picture of a athlete on the field those are real. If you see a picture of a model on the cover of a magazine most if not all of the time the photo has been retouched.

C) Some of the times when its okay to manipulate a photo is when you are trying to sell a product like are car or some food products and things of that nature. Some of the times when its not okay to manipulate a photo is when you put a girl on the cover of a magazine because of the fact that you are promoting false beauty. Those girls all have the perfect face with the perfect body and in reality that doesn't exist.

D) One technique in determing wheather a image is fake or not is when the context is altered is to identify aspects of the image that are inconsitent with the image description. Another technique in determing wheather a image is fake is to focus on the aspects that make its unbelievable.

A) From the reading… How do you know when an image is fake? Fiete cities 7 different ways to identify fake images. Explain 2 Different techniques.

Inconsistency- When an image is altered you can tell if a section of the image does not blend with the rest. For example, if the color or does not match up with the rest of the image like if the glossy paint job on a car, making it extra shiny then the image may have been altered. You can also tell by inconsistent lighting and shadowing are things that you also might see.

Context Altering- context altering is the mostly used image editing technique. You change the context of an image then claim that the image is of something else. You can also change the content of an image by placing an image on a different image to create an image with a new meaning. It's hard to notice with altered context but always one part of the image that makes it unbelievable

B) In your opinion…Can you trust the images you see in the media? Why or why not?
I can not trust the images I see in the media because I now that they could be altered to be anything that the artist wants it to be for that reason. After seeing many before-and-after pictures of the models I don't know what is real anymore. I can't trust images anymore since I can't tell if they're real or not.

C) In your opinion…when is photo manipulation “OK” and when is it “WRONG”? Explain ONE situation in which photo manipulation is acceptable, and ONE situation in which it is NOT.C) 1. When I first looked at this picture the first thing I recognized was a young child with a paper hat on his head that has a saying on it: Don’t make me an orphan by dying from aids.

When looking at this picture I see an African child that looks no older than 8. The first thing I say to my self is this child is full innocence. It makes me start to think that just because kids are young they still know what’s happening in our world today. Parents and grown-ups can no longer try to hide information from them. When I look at him I could tell in the look in his eyes that he has been or has seen it all. He knows HIV/Aids are the most deadly disease in American especially in Africa. As soon as I read the writing on his paper hat “Don’t make me an orphan by dying from aids.” I start to think if his mother or father is suffering from Aids and he doesn’t want to become an orphan when they die.

I don’t know when HIV/Aids had begun, but I do know that during 1940s HIV had jumped from animals to humans. To this day many people are suffering from this disease. In 2006, approximately millions of people are suffering with this disease about half of the number of people that are suffering from it doesn’t even know it. Many people though the only people to get this disease is by having sexual intercourse with the same gender. What people really don’t know is that you can get HIV when you use the same needle as someone else. People who inject themselves with drugs also risk infecting themselves with HIV.

The photographer’s intention on this photo was to show viewers that not only should we acknowledge the importance behind HIV/aids but the message this child is displaying on his hat. The photographer is letting the audience know not only does this disease affect adults but it affects young ones!

From what I' ve learned thus far in Media Seminar Ive come to the conclusion that in some cases you can't trust the images you see in the media but then in other cases you can. The reason why i say that you can trust the images you see in the media is because based on Blog 3 where i found a picture of a woman in the mist of 9/11 it was clearly a real experience and it was obvious that the picture was not manipulated in any way. When you look at a pictures you bring along what you already know and interpert the picture from there. And from what i know about 9/11 and from what the newspaper and television has exposed to the public this picture looks as if it is VERY accurate. But then again you cant trust some pictures in the media. I say this because in the media they portray Celebrities as being the epitome of real beauty. When you see them on the cover of magazines they look FLAWLESS. They have no bumps, pimples, zits, and for that matter pores. In reality we know that there is no one with a face that flawless that they heve no pores. Its not reality, its a product of photoshop.

You can tell that a picture is credible or not by looking at the source. If your ever in doubt about if a picture is credible or not ask yourself: does the picture look professional? Is the picture from a source that produces well know pictures?. Or does the picture have errors or things that look out of place?

Many people have diffrent beliefs about what is exceptable when it comes to manipulating photos. In my opinion manipulating photos is okay in many diffrent aspects. It's okay when your taking a school photo and you have an unexpected bump on your face, in art, and for entertainment. I also believe something controversial. I believe it is okay to manipulate photos when selling a product. Many makeup companies sell their makeup beside the picture of a "flawless" face and many of the headlines say "Unmistakably Beautyful" or "Want Beautyful Skin." People believe that this is false advertising and deception but i dont. I believe that its fine. This is becasue if you put the face of a regular looking person on the cover of a makeup product box then most likely the product isnt going to be sold. Think about it; people wear makeup because they want to cover there normal face and make it look better then it really is. So why would someone want to see a imperfect face on a bottle of make that they want to make them look perfect?

A good way to be able to tell if a photo is fake is to see if anything in the picture is inconsistent with the image discription. Another way is by looking to understand the image formation properties of a camera. If you know that then you know when a picture is real.

Some images in the media can be trusted, because it's not like everything can be manipulated as an advantage. Some things don't even need to be manipulated for that matter. Although I do believe that most images in media are manipulated and cannot be trusted due to the misrepresentation of it. Obviously no one wants to make it known that their products are digitally manipulated but it's very misleading.
Fortunately fellow designers/ photographers can usually tell the difference between a photo that's manipulated and one that's not. It's not always that obvious but when you fathom the possibilities of photo manipulation it's hard not to be able at least a dozen things has been manipulated.
I can't be hypocritical and say that not informing your audience of manipulation is not okay because I do it a lot. But depending on the nature of the media and the cause for manipulation... Some may deserve an explanation or at least a notice that something has been manipulated. It should probably okay in most cases since manipulation is probably the number one factor of good advertising. Sometimes it's not always bad but always letting people know when something is manipulated wouldn't hurt because it won't undermine our advertisers trust but at the same time it gets us where we need to be, to be successful.

In this pic, as you can see this elderly womans pic was retouched. I don't know what kind of technology they use but they did a marvelous job on the picture.
As you can see, the woman on the left has very deep wrinkles as if she was 90 years old!! However, the picture on the left makes her look like she is in he late 40's

i believe this picture of nicole richy on the cover of seventeen magazine has been alter. I believe this because its not uncommon for a celebrity to have gotten a blemish, pimp or zit photoshoped so that they look flawless on the cover of a magazine. if you zoom in on a untouched picture you can see the pores of the persons face but in this picture if you zoom in you see no pores and me all know that everyone has pores on the face.
The target audience of this picture was for teen girls. this is obvious because its on the cover of SEVENTEEN magazine.
The intension of this picture was to draw teenage girls to the magazine. Nicole Richy is very what i would call "fetch" someone like her would be perfect for the cover of a teen mag
